What is a Moon sign?
Your Moon sign is the zodiac sign the Moon occupied when you were born. Your Sun sign follows the Sun's position; your Moon sign follows the Moon, which moves through the zodiac much faster.
In astrology, the Moon is associated with emotional habits, instinctive reactions and what helps you feel at home. The reading is a way to reflect on those patterns, not a prediction of what will happen.

Your Moon's degree and house
A birth time gives the Moon's position within its sign and its house in your chart. Houses are traditionally associated with areas of life. These details are left out when the birth time is unknown.
The Moon phase at your birth
See the phase, the percentage illuminated, and whether the Moon was waxing or waning. Phase describes how the Moon was lit; it is a different fact from its zodiac sign. Without a birth time, the phase is labelled as a start-of-day reference.
Can I find my Moon sign without a birth time?
Yes, if the Moon stayed in the same sign throughout your local birth day. Choose “I don't know my birth time” and the calculator checks the whole day. If it changed sign, you'll see both possibilities instead of a guessed answer.
On 44 days in every 100 in our 30-year sample, the Moon changed sign. It moves between 0.49 and 0.64 degrees an hour, so a time can matter near a sign boundary. A birth certificate or hospital record may help you find it.
Why does the calculator need my birthplace?
Your birthplace tells us which local clock your birth time was recorded on, including the time zone and daylight saving. Enter the local time as written on the record; you don't need to convert it to UTC.
The place also matters for the Moon's house when you give a birth time. Check the town, region and country in the suggestions before calculating.
