Did you know that your body is similar to a radio? As weird as that question might seem, it’s true. Every minute of every hour, your body is emitting energy at a particular frequency, the combined result is known as your aura.
Now before you run away from this super-scientific answer, just bear with me. I realize that you probably came here for one of two reasons: to find out how to read auras or to learn more about your own.
This is something that I know a great deal about. But, before I share this knowledge with you, I want to tell you a story that will help you understand what supreme beings we are.
I clearly remember the first time I really understood that our body is pure energy. Sure, I knew about energy from science class, but I mostly saw it as something happening out there, not inside of me.
This particular day, I was very upset about something. I was angry, sad, and felt frustrated all at once. I wanted to scream (dramatic much, I know…), but instead, I balled up my fist, closed my eyes, and screamed internally.
Instantly, a huge fever blister appeared on my face. It shocked me so much that I forgot what I was even mad about. All I could think of was how powerful my emotions were and how they had a direct effect on my physical body.
It wasn’t long after that I began to learn more about the energy fields (auric fields) surrounding us and how we project energy out into these fields.
Even if you can’t see it at this moment, your auric field definitely exists. Once you achieve a state of relaxed awareness, you’ll be more likely to see it.
What Is My Aura?
Because all humans operate at a specific frequency, we each have a unique aura. We also emit a very low level of electricity from the body.
This, combined with your vibration, makes up your aura, which is, according to ancient gurus, actually several layers deep (think of a seven-layer cake.) This ‘cake’ is often made up of different colors.
One explanation for that is our emotions, spirituality, and physical experience at the moment are all mixed together like ingredients. The outcome is your aura.
This is something I really believe since I’ve noticed that people who are happy and full of joy have very vibrantly colored auras.
On the flip side, if a person is depressed or stressed, their aura tends to be muted or dull. It’s important to note that our auras are also subject to change, which makes it even more important to learn to read your own aura. It’ll help you keep up with the visual changes as they happen.
How Can you See your Aura?
Before we get to the different layers of an aura and what the colors mean, I want to share a couple of ways to see your own aura. It’s usually a lot easier to see another person’s energy field.
However, seeing your own is possible. Below are some suggestions:
- Stand Facing a White Wall: Extend your arms out as far as you can. Then, set your focus on your hands, specifically the space just past your fingertips. Allow your vision to ‘unfocus’ or squint your eyes, and you will begin to see a fine mist around your hand. Spread your fingers out and let the mist expand. This is your aura.
- Stand in Front of a Mirror: Repeat the steps from the previous tip. As you continue to let your vision expand out, you’ll see more layers of your aura. Squinting a bit helps as well, especially when using the non-focus technique doesn’t seem to be giving you a clear view.
If you’re having difficulty seeing your aura, try following the aforementioned tips while sitting down. If it still doesn’t help, consider engaging in deep breathing exercises or meditation to relax.
Alternatively, you can focus on feeling your aura instead of seeing it. Often, we can sense our auras more easily with our whole bodies than with our eyes.
To do this, close your eyes and rub your hands together as if you’re warming them up for at least 20 seconds. Then, extend your arms out with palms facing.
Slowly bring your hands closer together as if they’re meeting in the middle. Pay close attention to the sensations and feelings you experience. This will aid in interpreting your aura.
The most common mistake I notice is people giving up too soon. Just like learning an instrument or participating in a sport, some individuals grasp things instantly, while others require more practice.
Remember to keep practicing on yourself and others until reading auras becomes second nature to you.
The Seven Layers of an Aura
Almost everyone who thinks of auras thinks of color. Understanding what each hue represents is super essential, but you also need to know about the different auric layers.
Each layer is connected to one of the seven chakras and even a specific color. I’ve described each one below:
Physical Auric Layer
This level is the closest to your body and is also known as the ‘etheric level’. If it were in the chakra system, it would be the root chakra and is represented, but unlike this energy center, it isn’t red but a grayish blue.
This is the easiest auric level to see and is very strong in those who are physically active or focused on sports/exercise. It tends to be muddled when one is sick or tired.
Emotional Auric Layer
Also called the astral level, the second layer of your aura extends out just past the first one. It is lined with your solar plexus and is your emotional seat. Just like our feelings, this can be any color of the rainbow but is weakened in brightness when one is upset.
Mind Auric Layer
What color is your thinking cap? In the auric field, it’s bright yellow. If you’re constantly engaged in activities that stimulate your mind, you’ll often have a yellow-tinted aura.
The same thing is true of creative tasks since all imaginative energy flows from the third center. As far as the chakra centers are concerned, the solar plexus is connected to this one.
Astral Bridge
Pink and rosy, this layer of energy represents our connectedness with others. When we are involved in healthy, loving relationships, the radiation is strong and bright.
When we are in conflict, it can be extremely limited. It’s probably no surprise that the bridge layer is directly connected to your heart chakra.
Etheric Template
Having trouble with being true to yourself? It’ll show in your fifth auric layer. This is known as the ‘blueprint’ as it shows all that you are on a personal level.
Colors vary, but it is closely joined with the throat chakra. If you want a strong fifth-layer aura, you must be comfortable with yourself and speak your personal truth.
Celestial Body Auric Layer
Extending out two to three feet from the body, the celestial layer is of the aura makeup. Everything to do with spiritual awareness and the subconscious mind is represented in this layer.
This includes one’s dreams and devotional practices. Pearly white, it is connected to the third eye chakra and the divine.
Gold-Crown Auric Layer
The final auric layer is the gold-crown layer. It is also called the ketheric layer and is what helps us feel one with the universe and God/Creator.
It rapidly pulsates and although it is furthest from the body, it vibrates at the highest frequency of all. I like to think of it as a goldfield of protection that surrounds my body when I am functioning at my very best.
Aura Colors and Their Meanings
Now that you understand what aura means and what are different auric layers, it’s time to talk about the aura colors.
There are seven aura colors – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white – that all represent something different. So, let’s look at each aura color and its meaning.
Red Aura Color Meaning
Because it stands for strength and passion, a red aura is one of the most powerful ones that can be seen in an auric field.
Lots of energy is wrapped up in people who show a lot of red in their auras, so they usually like to express themselves using their physical bodies.
Because this is a lower vibration, closest to the earth, people with a red aura are usually adrenaline junkies who are fearless and fierce at the same time.
The following are a couple of different shades of red aura that you should know.
Blood Red Aura
A darker and more ominous shade of red, reminiscent of blood, suggests intense rage and anger. Individuals with this type of red aura may frequently engage in conflicts, exhibit road rage, or have a confrontational nature. Their emotions can escalate rapidly, going from calm to explosive in a matter of seconds.
Cherry Red Aura
A vibrant and vivid shade of red signifies a person who is energetic and positive. They possess strong leadership qualities and thrive in team settings. Their sense of justice and fairness is highly respected, making them balanced individuals with a red aura.
Orange Aura Color Meaning
Oh, happy day! Like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh, those with an orange aura are happy, joyful, and vibrant. An orange aura represents vitality and good health.
Let’s discuss different shades of orange aura.
Peach Aura
A peach aura signifies a strong ability to effectively communicate ideas and thoughts to others. Individuals with this aura are often seen as teachers, writers, and public speakers, showcasing their exceptional communication skills.
Pumpkin Orange Aura
A pumpkin orange aura indicates individuals with strong self-discipline and keen attention to detail. They possess the ability to focus and pay attention to even the smallest aspects of their endeavors.
Tangerine Aura
A tangerine aura reflects thoughtfulness, consideration, and a natural inclination toward social interactions. People with this aura are often warm and engaging, displaying a genuine interest in others. They are also highly goal-oriented and seek a vibrant and spontaneous lifestyle.
Burnt Orange Aura
A burnt orange aura represents ambition and a strong desire for change. These individuals are driven and proactive, combining their need for action with a willingness to embrace transformation and progress in their lives.
Yellow Aura Color Meaning
Move out of the way – the boss is in the building. It means that the yellow aura meaning is synonymous with authority and self-assurance. Most influential leaders have yellow auras as it represents confidence and a creative and friendly disposition.
Individuals who have yellow auras naturally attract other people because of their generous and joyous personalities. They have the tendency to go the extra mile for others. However, it’s important to note that yellow-aura people need to be very careful to make sure that they give themselves time to rejuvenate and rest.
If you’re wondering, “Is yellow aura connected to solar plexus chakra”? The answer is yes, and it also expresses your creative and friendly side. If you have a yellow aura personality, you’re probably good at getting others to see things your way.
However, you should note if the color yellow takes on a slightly neon tint, it can indicate an imbalance or blockage in the solar plexus chakra, which is the energy center connected to personal power and confidence.
This connection highlights the importance of addressing and balancing your inner strength and self-esteem.
Light Yellow Auras
Light yellow auras resemble the soft glow of a new dawn, symbolizing hope and new beginnings. Individuals with this aura may be embarking on a new phase in their life or experiencing new realizations. There is a certain optimism connected to a light-yellow aura.
Bright Yellow Aura
Bright yellow auras radiate with brilliance, indicating happiness, confidence, and a pleasant and social nature. People with this aura possess a strong sense of self and emit joy.
Golden Yellow Aura
Golden yellow auras are often associated with leadership and spiritual enlightenment. People with golden yellow auras are magnetically charismatic, with the ability to teach, inspire, and motivate others. Their strength, control, and wisdom make them naturally captivating to those around them.
Green Aura Color Meaning
If you’ve got a green vibe, you’re a healer at heart. You’re probably a caring, loving, and nurturing person who enjoys helping others.
With a green emission, you’ll be radiating unconditional love and life-changing energy to everything around you. This is one of the most amazing colors to shine since you can do so much good with this aura.
Light Green Aura
Individuals with light green auras feel a calling to embark on a meaningful healing journey, prioritizing self-healing before extending their healing powers to others.
They value personal well-being and immerse themselves in personal development and creative self-expression through art in different forms like writing, painting, or music.
Dark Green Aura
Dark green auras convey different meanings. They can be associated with pride, jealousy, and a victim mentality, where individuals compare themselves to others and struggle with criticism.
Connecting with nature and grounding oneself can be beneficial for those with dark green auras, fostering a sense of responsibility and self-awareness.
Emerald Green Aura
An emerald aura holds a magnetic quality that attracts people. Those with an emerald green aura are natural healers and they bring harmony, comfort, and warmth to those around them. They possess an innate ability to heal others through their positive energy and personality.
Blue-Green Aura
Blue-green auras encompass calming and grounding qualities, emphasizing the importance of comfort and tranquility.
These individuals are energized by activities that promote presence and possess sensitivity, a strong sense of purpose, and a willingness to grow and transform.
However, darker shades of blue-green may indicate possessiveness or fear of being unlovable.
Mint Green Aura
Mint green auras reflect a deep commitment to living harmoniously with love and peace. They possess a positive outlook on life and strike a balance between adventure and stability, combining vibrant energy with grounding calmness.
Blue Aura Color Meaning
Supportive and intuitive, blues are highly developed spiritual people who can connect with themselves and others through open and honest communication.
If you’re radiating blue, it’s because you’re naturally gifted in some artistic sense. Maybe you’re a talented speaker, a writer, or a singer.
You’ll be at your bluest (color-wise, not emotion-wise) when you’re doing what you love openly and honestly.
Sky Blue Aura
Sky blue auras emanate a strong sense of creativity, making individuals with this aura highly skilled creatives and leaders who use their talents and voice to positively impact others.
They possess excellent communication skills and express themselves effortlessly, guided by their intuitive compass and speaking from the heart. Sky-blue auras radiate peace and positivity in their lives.
True Blue Aura
True blue auras, such as royal or cobalt blue, are closely tied to communication, clarity, intuition, and self-expression.
People with true blue auras have a deep spiritual connection, embracing the mysteries and depth of life.
They utilize their intuition, wisdom, imagination, and creativity to convey their inner world to others.
Turquoise Blue Aura
Turquoise blue auras symbolize confidence in self-awareness and self-knowledge. Individuals with this aura often find themselves in roles as healers, teachers, singers, and speakers.
They embrace leadership and willingly serve others with their gifts, creating a harmonious balance between self-expression and being of service.
Purple Aura Color Meaning
A high-frequency color, the spirit realm resonates as purple. If you are vibrating purple, you are most definitely open-minded and progressive.
You probably have a curious nature as well and tend to ‘think outside the box’ a bit.
There is a sense of spiritual connectedness with this color as well since it linked the 6th auric level and your third eye.
Light Purple Aura
Individuals with a light purple aura have achieved a harmonious balance between their spiritual intuition and their knowledge of the physical world. They possess the ability to emotionally connect with their surroundings while maintaining a strong spiritual link to the astral plane.
Dark Purple Aura
A dark purple aura suggests a struggle within one’s spiritual journey. It can indicate being in a challenging situation or having made decisions that deviate from the true desires of the soul.
Reflection and introspection are advised to discern whether choices are driven by instant gratification or alignment with one’s inner truth.
Violet Purple Aura
Violet represents the highest and purest form of the purple aura. It signifies a state of balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Contemplative and intuitive, those with a violet aura are highly creative and deeply attuned to their emotions.
Often, they engage in practices such as meditation and yoga to maintain the health and alignment of their physical and spiritual selves.
Lavender Purple Aura
A lavender aura indicates a person with a vivid imagination and exceptional creativity. These dreamy individuals are naturally drawn to artistic pursuits like making music, writing, dancing, drawing, and painting.
While they may sometimes appear distant due to their constant daydreaming and active imagination, they lead fulfilling and joyous lives.
White Aura Color Meaning
White is super-duper rare as the pure white aura is the mark of a highly-evolved person who is angel or prophet-like. Jesus, Gandhi, and Mother Theresa. These are your white-aura people.
Although it is unlikely that you or anyone you know has an entirely white aura, you may have some white undertones, especially if you are focused on helping society evolve as a whole.
Bright White
Imagine a luminous, radiant white aura that signifies a profound and transcendent connection to the universe. This ethereal color is a testament to the individual’s remarkable spiritual growth and enlightenment, a result of their dedicated pursuit of divine wisdom and illumination.
Murky White
In contrast, a white aura tinged with darker shades reveals a moment of uncertainty and fear. It suggests that the person may be grappling with doubts and struggling to define their authentic self and purpose in life.
It serves as a reminder for them to embark on a journey of self-discovery and regain clarity and confidence in their path.
Can Aura Colors Change?
Your aura colors can change – and they will, often. At times you might be more red, green, blue, yellow, you name it.
If you’re more emotional, you’re sick, or in love, all of these things can affect your energy field. This is why reading your own aura is such an amazing self-reflection tool.
It is important to remember that your aura isn’t something you can turn on and off or change deliberately (your body has no light switch). You can, however, cleanse it. This is something that I’ll cover in the next section.
How to Cleanse Your Aura
In my detailed chakra guide, I talked about ways one can balance their chakra. Your aura doesn’t get off-balance per se, but it can become muddled by too many negative emotions and experiences.
This, in turn, keeps you on a low vibration and unable to ascend. I equate it to a glass of water that a painter uses to clean his brush.
Although the red, blue, green, and other colors might look good in isolation, too many dips into the water will leave it a dirty brown. Before long, new water is needed.
There isn’t just one way to cleanse your aura, so you can try out a few techniques and use the one that feels right to you. Some of my personal favorites include:
- Meditation: I know I mention meditation as a solution to a lot of problems. There is a reason for that. It IS the solution to a lot of issues. There are actual guided meditations that you can do that are solely focused on aura cleansing. A quick Youtube search will yield good results.
- Visualization: This works best when combined with meditation, but you can use it in isolation as well. The first step is to read your aura. Then, close your eyes and visualize it in your mind. Next, see yourself washing it clean of any impurities and becoming as white as snow. Do this for several minutes or until you feel clear.
- Burn Sage: Also known as smudging, burning sage has been a spiritual practice for thousands of years. Most people have heard of smudging to clean a room of negative energy. It can also be used to rid your aura of low vibes.
- Balancing Your Chakras: I guess I lied when I said you don’t balance your auras. Technically, you don’t. However, balancing your energy centers will help you to emit energy that is positive and vibrating at a high frequency. This will help keep your aura clean and the color it is naturally meant to be.
Aura Photography
Celebrities have made getting your aura photographed cool, and this is one trend with which I can definitely hop on board.
I won’t get into lots of technical details, but this is done using a special camera that captures the beauty of one’s spirit in all its wonder.
Although this might sound “new age,” it’s actually been around since the 1970s. Not sure what you’d do with the photo after having it taken?
Frame it–but first, have it ‘read.’ An aura guru can look at these kinds of pictures and determine many things like how you view the world and even your goals and aspirations.
Combined with professional aura readings, this can be a soul-connecting experience.
Professional Aura Readings
If you’re into auras and want to learn more about your own, you might be considering a professional aura reading.
So many spiritual guides are ready and willing to provide this type of information if you are willing to receive it. I find that an aura reading is a great way to confirm what you see as well.
For example, you may be reading red in your aura and want to know if this low vibration is being emitted. An aura reader would be able to provide feedback and also help you clear up any unwanted energy projections, replacing them with a more positive source.
Ready to Read Your Aura?
There are so many reasons why learning to read auras is a must-do! For one, you’ll be able to self-examine and quickly figure out exactly what is going on underneath the surface. This works with other people too.
Want to know what kind of personality your new co-worker has? Read their aura. The same is true for family and friends.

Hi Julie, Thank you for sharing this amazing experience! The white aura is, more than any other aura, associated with the healing arts and psychic development:) With the things you described, the color makes absolutely sense. I’m also happy to hear that the pendulum worked and that you received great insights and answers. Regarding getting a tarot deck: since you’re a lot into arts, maybe you can create one yourself? Just read about the symbolism of the cards, buy some paper, and use your creativity:) Wish you all the best on your journey and feel free to reach out whenever you have a question. Sending you lots of sparks of joy ✨
