Libra New Moon on October 10 arrives with Venus retrograde squaring Mars in Leo

A New Moon forms in Libra on Saturday, October 10, 2026, as Venus, still retrograde in Scorpio, squares Mars in Leo, the Times of India reports. The Old Farmer's Almanac places the exact moment at 11:50 a.m. EDT, according to Hindustan Times.

The Sun and Moon meet at 17 degrees Libra and form a supportive sextile to Jupiter in Leo, while loosely opposing Saturn in Aries, Yahoo reports. Venus returns to Libra on October 25, reopening questions about love and values that the retrograde left unresolved, according to Yahoo.

Relationships face a renegotiation, not just an ending#

Libra governs the informal and formal structures by which individuals establish mutual obligations, including romantic partnerships, business deals and shared living arrangements, Yahoo reports. The outlet says the most practical effect of the New Moon may involve renegotiating relationships rather than closing them, with couples revisiting financial agreements or divided responsibilities.

US-based astrologer Judy Tsafir said the pairing of Libra's search for harmony with Scorpio's demand for truth is an uneasy one, according to Hindustan Times. Tsafir linked Libra's shadow side to codependency, telling followers on Instagram that people can start feeling okay only once everyone around them does, Hindustan Times reports.

The Economic Times reports that the New Moon, associated with Libra's themes of balance, partnerships and boundaries, may prompt Aries to reassess give-and-take in relationships, Cancer to address household communication, and Leo to reconsider how they express opinions with siblings or colleagues.

A packed Saturday of overlapping observances#

The same Saturday is also Sarva Pitru Amavasya, the final and most significant day of Pitru Paksha, the Hindu period of ancestral remembrance, according to the Times of India. Because the new moon falls on a Saturday, it also coincides with Shani Amavasya, a day astrologers associate with addressing karmic debt tied to the planet Shani and the ancestors, per the Times of India.

Astrologer Sidhharrth S Kumaar of NumroVani dated Sarva Pitru Amavasya to October 10, 2026, Hindustan Times reports, describing the day as an occasion to perform tarpan or shraddha for ancestors whose death date is unknown. Sharad Navratri begins the following day, October 11, according to the Economic Times.

October 10 is also called the 10/10 portal by numerology and angel-number practitioners, who associate the repeating digits with fresh starts, according to Hindustan Times, which notes the Old Farmer's Almanac does not identify the date as a spiritual portal. US-based astrologer Theresa Reed told the Almanac the lunar phase favors new partnerships and agreements, per Hindustan Times.

Venus stays retrograde through the reset#

Venus, Libra's ruling planet, remains retrograde in Scorpio. Astrologer Judy Tsafir told Hindustan Times that this retrograde can push reflection inward, encouraging people to examine their own choices rather than rushing to fix a relationship.
