Moon

November's Beaver supermoon reaches its full phase on November 24.

November's Beaver Moon reaches its full phase on November 24 at 9:53 a.m. ET, The Economic Times reports. The full moon is a supermoon, a term for a full or new moon occurring near the point in its orbit closest to Earth. Its apparent size is slightly larger than usual.

The exact full phase is distinct from moonrise. In the United States, the moon rises in the northeast in the late afternoon, around sunset, according to The Economic Times. The publication reports that it clears the horizon shortly before sunset in both New York and Los Angeles.

Moonrise times vary by city#

In New York City, moonrise is at 4:15 p.m. EST and sunset follows at 4:31 p.m. EST on November 24. In Los Angeles, the corresponding times are 4:42 p.m. PST and 4:45 p.m. PST, The Economic Times reports. Buildings or trees can obscure the moon after the listed rise time.

In Minsk, moonrise is approximately 16:07, according to Time and Date, as cited by Nasha Niva. The publication puts the full phase at approximately 17:53 Minsk time and says the moon also appears nearly full to the eye on November 23 and 25.

Paris Secret reports that the full phase occurs at 3:53 p.m. Paris time, with moonrise around 4:25 p.m. The publication describes the event as the second-to-last full moon of 2026 and says the moon is near perigee, the closest point to Earth in its orbit.

The Beaver name marks winter preparations#

According to The Economic Times, The Old Farmer's Almanac links the Beaver Moon name to trappers catching beavers ahead of waterways freezing. Paris Secret also connects the name to North American folk traditions and the animals' preparations for winter.

The moon can appear especially large near the horizon beside buildings or trees, but that effect is an illusion of perception, Nasha Niva reports. The Economic Times distinguishes that illusion from the supermoon's actual increase in apparent size, which comes from its distance from Earth.

December's Cold Moon comes closer to Earth than November's full moon, The Economic Times reports. It reaches its full phase on December 23 at 8:28 p.m. ET, or 5:28 p.m. PT. The date is December 24 in UTC, accounting for the different dates listed on some platforms.
