Psychics emphasize human connection as AI readings spread

Psychics are emphasizing human connection and advertising AI-free readings as automated alternatives become more available, Yahoo Tech reports. Some practitioners argue that chatbots cannot provide the personal relationship they consider central to their work.

Apps and websites offer computer-generated spiritual readings, while AI-generated psychics have also appeared on TikTok Live, according to The Guardian. Human practitioners told the newspaper that AI-generated horoscope readings and spells were appearing on Etsy, a marketplace for divination products.

Psychic and coach Lauryn Kellett addressed the competition in April 2025, urging spiritual business owners to stress intuition and personal connection. She considers those qualities beyond AI's reach, Yahoo Tech reports.

A human reader's involvement does not establish an ability to predict the future, Yahoo Tech notes. Wikipedia states that the scientific consensus finds no proof of psychic powers, which are claimed to reveal information beyond the normal senses.

Online readings also connect customers with independent advisers by chat, phone or video, according to Impakter. The outlet says most platforms charge by the minute, with prices varying between advisers.

Tarot practitioners describe mixed uses#

A study presented at CHI 2026 interviewed 12 tarot practitioners who already used AI for personal readings, Yahoo Tech reports. Some sought reassurance about how they interpreted cards, while others wanted alternative perspectives that could challenge their assumptions.

Yahoo Tech reports that interviewees encountered resistance to AI in tarot communities and questioned whether using it too much might erode their intuition. Some community moderators refused to help recruit for the AI study. The interviews involved a small group of existing users, not a representative sample of the profession.

One participant treated chatbot hallucinations, or software-generated errors, as potentially meaningful chance events, comparing them with a card falling from a deck. Yahoo Tech reports that the participant considered the error another detail to interpret.

MysticTwin is recruiting psychics to train AI doubles that could serve clients while the practitioners are offline, Yahoo Tech reports. The company's website says it would take 50% of chat revenue and that customers would be told when they are speaking with AI.
