Readings and healing sessions fill the schedule#

Readers at the fair will provide tarot and oracle card sessions, psychic mediumship, crystal scrying and angel messages, along with rune casting, pendulum work, Akashic record sessions and past-life readings, the Rural Radio Network reports.

On the healing side, practitioners will offer Reiki, shamanic energy work, chakra balancing and Qi Gong, plus singing bowl sessions, light-language activations and aromatherapy, according to the outlet. Ionic foot detox treatments and small-group cacao ceremonies round out the wellness lineup, the Rural Radio Network adds.

Vendors will also sell hippie-style clothing, beeswax skincare and plant-based nutrition products, along with aeroponic Tower Garden systems, dream catchers, resin art and chain-mail pieces, the Rural Radio Network reports.

Fairs across the country mark long milestones this season#

The metaphysical fair's run comes as other long-running regional fairs mark major anniversaries this fall. The Deerfield Fair in New Hampshire, the oldest family fair in New England, opened its 150th year with rides, horse shows and classic fair food, including a horse show expanded this year to fit 300 horses, WMUR reports.

In North Carolina, the Davidson County Agricultural Fair highlighted its own kind of longevity, with Gene Fritts and Stevie Hedrick logging a combined 136 years at the Linwood Lions Club food booth preparing meals featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, country ham sandwiches, legumes and french fries, The Dispatch reports. Fritts, 91, has worked the booth for 65 years, while Hedrick has volunteered there for 71, according to the outlet.

A practice tied to the wider New Age movement#

The fair's mix of crystal work, energy healing and divination fits within what Wikipedia describes as the New Age movement, encompassing diverse spiritual and religious approaches that expanded rapidly throughout Western society in the early 1970s. Wikipedia notes that adherents typically see the practices as integrating the physical, mental and spiritual dimensions of human existence rather than as a single organized religion.

Some of the fair's offerings, including Akashic record work and past-life readings, draw on ideas about the fundamental nature of reality that Wikipedia traces to metaphysics, a branch of philosophy that Aristotle treated as a first philosophy more basic than other inquiry.
