The chakra system is one of my all-time favorite topics to write about. Mainly because few people know about its importance and sharing what I know about our energy centers can lead to a lifelong change.
Tao Te Ching said “When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready… The teacher will Disappear.” I have no doubt that you have stumbled upon this article for a reason.
While on my journey to understanding how each energy wheel works, I read lots and lots of chakra books.
Some were boring and filled with fluff or incorrect information. Others were interesting but didn’t bring about real change.
Thankfully, there were a few that helped me achieve sincere balance and healing. So, it’s safe to say that for the most part, chakra reading was hit-and-miss.
It’s for this reason that I decided to write this article. My hope is that it will serve as a guide to others on a similar spiritual path, weed through ‘junk material’ and invest in chakra books that are really worth the read.
My Best Chakra Books
While going to Amazon and scanning through book reviews might seem like a sure-fire way of making sure you pick a good read, this tactic doesn’t always work.
Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more common for Amazon sellers to pay reviewers to come onto their sites and write bogus reviews. Unethical, sure, common, yes.
This is why it’s so important that you only read reviews of chakra books (or any books) from reputable websites that belong to people who care about their readers. With that in mind, here are our top 7 chakra book suggestions
1. Chakra Healing
[amazon fields=”1623158281″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Chakra Healing Book” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”1623158281″ value=”button”]
A number one bestseller on Amazon, this phenomenal healing guide comes in three different formats (paperback, audiobook, and Kindle) so you can access it regardless of your material preference.
The book’s author, Margarita Alcantara, is a writing and healer with a booming acupuncture business based in New York.
Through this beginner’s guide, Alcantara shares how you can heal body pain, allergies, headaches, stomach aches, inflammation, fatigue, and even emotional issues through the understanding of the chakras.
It does so in four chapters:
- Explanation and background of each chakra
- How to work with each chakra through meditation/crystals/oils
- What ailments and illnesses are connected to the chakras
- Ways to heal negative effects/illnesses/symptoms caused by chakra imbalances
What I really love about this book is that it also incorporates other important spiritual practices like meditation, yoga, and the use of crystals. Plus, it’s good for beginners and no background knowledge in any of these areas is needed.
If you’re a step-by-step or a visual learner, you’ll really enjoy this pick since it includes images and illustrations alongside the exercises and recommendations.
I love ‘warm’ (chakra) books like this one because it takes away some of the uncomfortableness of learning a new subject.
Everything inside the four sections is broken down and easy to understand. But even as someone who knew quite a bit about chakras prior to diving into this chakra book, I still learned a lot of new things I didn’t know before.
2. The Ultimate Guide to Chakras
[amazon fields=”159233847X” value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”ultimate guide to chakras” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”159233847X” value=”button”]
If I had to describe this chakra guide with just one word, it would be “complete.” Once you own this chakra book, you won’t need to cross-reference any other.
Sort of like an encyclopedia of all tarot knowledge, this ultimate guide lays it all out for you. A 20-year chakra-work veteran reviewed it as the most comprehensive book on the market and I have to say I agree.
One thing that makes this book exceptional when compared to others on the same subject is its easy flow. It is jam-packed with info, but it isn’t a boring read.
Whenever I’m reading something that’s non-fiction, I sometimes get bogged down when there’s too much info. The author of this book must have predicted this problem as gorgeous artwork was included with information on each chakra.
The book is also supplemented with connection to rituals, gemstones, and runes as well. I love how it has a lot of historical information, especially about ancient deities and the Soul Star and Earth Star chakras.
It also includes DIY projects and even recipes, so if you’re a creative soul, this is definitely a buy for you.
3. Wheels of Life: A User’s Guide to the Chakra System
[amazon fields=”0875423205″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Wheel of Life Chakra Book” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”0875423205″ value=”button”]
With over 30,000 copies sold, this chakra book has been described as the most significant and influential book on the chakras ever written.
A yoga teacher’s companion, through this guide, the author offers the ability to connect with the chakras and:
- Gain more wisdom
- Improve your health
- Boost your energy
- Grasp creativity
- Manifest your dreams
Over 400 pages in length, this chakra book has a high Amazon rating because of its fresh take on an ancient topic.
Many of the reviews from readers highlight the fact that it helps get rid of emotional blockages–even those of which you’re unaware. There is unique information in this read that I haven’t seen elsewhere.
The exercise chapter will help you ‘practice what you preach’ and take book knowledge to a physical level.
I, personally, found the meditations in this chakra book especially powerful and helpful for those needing a way to open their chakras.
Other fabulous parts of this chakra book include ways to ground yourself, heal out of tune chakras, and help your soul progress toward enlightenment.
4. The Book of Chakras
[amazon fields=”0764121073″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Book of Chakras” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”0764121073″ value=”button”]
Are you a chakra books beginner? If so, I recommend book number four as a starting place for anyone who knows nothing about the forces within.
This one has more of a ‘textbook’ feel, but this can be a good thing. This is especially true for the visual learner.
A guide to self-reflection, the in-depth descriptions of each energy center will help you truly understand how they affect your physical and emotional body.
So many things that we consider normal (i.e. illnesses, stress) are actually caused by an imbalanced chakra system. When we bring our wheels into alignment, these issues heal in a way that is almost magical.
This chakra book serves as a conductor for this type of integration and also helps with self-analysis. What things would you like to heal?
I will add that this one has several references to Christianity which could be positive or negative depending where you stand on religion.
If you like the idea of connecting faith with chakra/yoga practices, The Book of Chakras: Discover the Hidden Forces Within You is an interesting blend.
5. Eastern Body, Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System as a Path to the Self
[amazon fields=”B01M0HYEY5″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Eastern bodym western mind chakra books” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”B01M0HYEY5″ value=”button”]
What a name! I actually chose this chakra book without reading reviews (hey, I like surprises) based on the title. Of course, it takes more than that for me to give it a recommendation.
Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Like other great chakra books, this reference guide helps you understand your energy centers on a profound level. But it doesn’t stop there.
One of the best kept secrets in chakra studies is figuring out how to tell whether a particular energy disc is balanced, deficient, or overworked.
There are two sides to an out-of-whack chakra and although there are some similarities, we heal underactive and overactive chakra centers differently.
The author does a fantastic job of combining the explanation of how this works with proven science-based information on childhood trauma. The mix of ancient practices with psychology makes for a read that is unlike any other.
Maybe that’s why I’ve read it three times and still can’t pass it on like I have so many other chakra books.
6. Complete Book of Chakras
[amazon fields=”B07DGZW2PD” value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Complete book of chakras” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”B07DGZW2PD” value=”button”]
Published in 2015, number six of our list is one of the best kept secrets of chakra books. It doesn’t have thousands of sales, but what it does have is that ‘it’ factor.
When scrolling through the reviews, one caught me by surprise and made me laugh a little. It said, “the only resource we would ever need if stranded on a deserted island.”
The more I thought about that statement, the more profound it became. If we are able to truly get in touch with ourselves, our power, and our energy–we are all we will ever need.
Of course, this is a major part of the soul’s journey. Every secret won’t be revealed through an 850-page chakra book. But that doesn’t mean the author didn’t try.
Some of the things I love most about it:
- The format is super easy to read
- Detailed info about every aspect of the chakra system
- Answers questions about many topics (metaphysical, biological, etc.)
- It teaches about energy vampires and psychic attacks
- The author has written several other great titles
The only thing I would like to point out with this one that might be considered a ‘con’ is that the images, diagrams, and charts aren’t as easy to see with the digital versions. For this reason, I recommend splurging a bit and getting it in print.
7. The Chakra Book: Energy and Healing Power of the Subtle Body
[amazon fields=”B00VKI3XW8″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Chakra Book: Energy and healing power of the subtle body” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”B00VKI3XW8″ value=”button”]
There is a cliche that says “You can’t judge a book by it’s cover.” As true as this might be, I definitely judged this chakra book by its cover.
At first glance, I wasn’t at all impressed. I’m not a big fan of ‘modern.’ This is especially true when it comes to ancient subjects like the chakra system.
However, I have to admit that my initial impression was wrong. Although I still don’t love the cover image, what is contained inside is phenomenal.
Described as a contemporary, in-depth look at the chakra system, this chakra book gives a scientific look into what many consider a mystical subject.
It also discusses the different stages of the mind, chakras in connection to religion, and ancient practices/knowledge that I’ll save for you to read. It really connects the ‘spiritual dots.’
I will tell you that this one is a page turner and self-exploration guide that will have you discovering things about yourself that you never knew existed.
8. Crystals for Beginners
[amazon fields=”1623159911″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Crystals Chakra Book” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”1623159911″ value=”button”]
While not technically a chakra book, I listed this one here because crystals and chakra healing go hand in hand.
Crystals have been used since ancient times to heal what is broken. Unfortunately, this knowledge was lost to the general public somewhere along the way.
This guide serves as a starting place for crystal healing while working in must-know details about energy and how the chakras are linked.
Are you having trouble in your love life? There’s a healing crystal for that. Do you struggle to make ends meet? There are ways to heal your security chakra and attract everything that you need. You just need the ‘know how’ that is contained within.
Which brings me to an important point. When purchasing a book, I always try to figure out what sets it apart from hundreds of others on the same topic.
For this guide, it is the resources page at the back that has tons of author recommendations for further study.
From chakra books to websites and even apps, a web of learning is intricately weaved in a way that hasn’t been duplicated elsewhere.
So with just one buy, you can secure months of learning. What more could one ask for in a book?
9. The Chakra Bible: The Definitive Guide to Working with Chakras
[amazon fields=”1402752245″ value=”thumb” image_size=”large” image_alt=”Chakra Bible Book” image_align=”center”]
[amazon fields=”1402752245″ value=”button”]
If you’re looking for spiritual practices to serve as an alternative to traditional religion, consider the Chakra Bible.
This reference chakra book includes a wealth of information on the chakras we all known about plus some new energy centers that were discovered more recently.
This info is paired with pages about associated chakra colors, Indian deities, healing stones, and even the emotional and physical actions connected to each wheel.
If you’ve read my article on aura reading, then you know I’m a big fan of this talent. Even though the Chakra Bible mainly focuses on energy centers, it does include revelations about auras that are worth a second look.
Crystal lovers will also find this one of the most helpful chakra books since it gives stone suggestions for different chakra-based issues
If you do decide to make this purchase, get your bookmarks ready. Reviewers who rave about it on Amazon seem to read it over and over again. It definitely isn’t one that will be collecting dust on a shelf.
Some Final Thoughts on Chakra Books
In the words of Elizabeth A. Behnke, “There is deep wisdom within our very flesh, if we can only come to our senses and feel it.”
By learning (or refreshing your memory with) all there is to know about the powerful energy we possess, we can connect with ourselves in a very meaningful way.
I always say that advice is never needed since deep down, we know best. Scroll through the list of chakra books, read a few reviews, and then dive in with the one that feels right for you.
After you begin your page-turner, I’d love to hear your thoughts and any ‘aha’ moments you have while reading. So comment here, or as always, feel free to reach out by email or social media.

Hi thanks so much for this article! I too can’t choose. I’d like to buy a couple. I am in the process of kundalini and this has brought me to want to learn more about chakras, mudras, yoga poses, mantras, healing and how they connect. I’ve found some great poster charts on Amazon but they are huge! I don’t want to fill my house with Chakra posters ???? well, I would but the others would appreciate it! So, a book with helpful clear charts showing the areas link up, as well as in-depth info would be great.
Thank you

Hi, this blog post was really helpful, I picked up a few books that I might possibly like. Really appreciate the short and crisp analysis of every book. Not taking much of a reader’s time yet doing the job.

Hi. Thank you so much for making this. I don’t know which one to choose because I want to read them all. Should I read them all or should I pick a couple that really peeks my interest and then explore other books about spirituality? I have ADHD and am having a really hard time choosing where to start.
Wille says
Hi Halle, thanks for your comment. I would recommend picking one or just a couple of books that speak to you ???? Are you completely new to chakras and spirituality? If so, I would go for the first book “Chakra Healing”. Good luck and enjoy!
