Table of Contents
How to Unblock Chakras
The seven chakras are the Root Chakra, the Sacral Chakra, the Solar Plexus Chakra, the Heart Chakra, the Throat Chakra, the Third Eye Chakra, and the Crown Chakra.
Each chakra is associated with a certain type of energy, with energy flowing throughout the chakra system.
These seven energy centers help different aspects of our lives, and blocked chakras can really impact our well-being. Learning how to unblock chakras allows you to thrive physically, mentally, and spiritually.
From breathing exercises to physical exercise, you can unblock your chakras in various ways. Before we look at each chakra individually, we will examine the best ways to unblock chakras and how to implement them in your life.
Affirmations
Affirmations are an easy and accessible way to unblock your chakras, and I recommend opting for this technique if you are new to spirituality. Chakra affirmations connect with the seven wheels of spinning energy within us and bring our focus to a specific chakra.
Repeating affirmations associated with your blocked chakra helps promote healing energy in the area. I have included an affirmation for each chakra below. However, you may wish to create your own, depending on what you want from the chakra.
For example, the Sacral Chakra governs sexuality, pleasure, and creativity. The affirmation I have included is all about creativity, but you may wish to focus on your sexuality in your affirmation. Creating your own affirmation for your chakras deepens your bond with each.
Yoga
Yoga is fantastic for your physical body, but it also works to unblock chakras. Chakras are an energy system, and yoga promotes energy flow within the system. There is a range of poses that focus on each of the seven chakras and online chakra-balancing yoga videos for you to check out.
I recommend practicing yoga with essential oils or incense burning, as this promotes a tranquil and peaceful environment. There are also some fantastic crystals for yoga that can help you focus.
Crystals
Talking of crystals, these wonderful spiritual tools are perfect for blocked chakras. Specific crystals harmonize with certain chakras, and we can hold them on blocked chakras to heal them.
It is important to ensure your chakra stones are cleansed and charged before you use them to unblock chakras! Doing so means that the stone’s powers are at its strongest. I also recommend using both chakra affirmations and healing crystals together. Hold the stone on the blocked chakra while repeating its associated affirmation.
Bija Mantras
In Vedic tradition, a Bija mantra is a short, one-syllable sound that can be used in yoga or meditation. They use the power of sound to send vibrations through us and bring focus and healing to the chakras.
To unblock one of these energy centers, meditate while repeating its associated Bija mantra. The sound activates the energy within the chakra to cleanse and renew it.
Chakra Journaling
Chakra journaling allows you to explore your connection with specific chakras through prompts. If you find writing things down useful, this technique is perfect for you!
I have included a prompt for each chakra. When exploring the prompt, allow yourself to be guided from within. Write down whatever comes to your mind, no matter how weird you may think it is!
How Do I Know If My Chakras Are Blocked?
Certain emotional, spiritual, and physical problems indicate blocked energy within a chakra. You may feel a general sense of imbalance and fatigue when your chakras are blocked.
Here are the symptoms that indicate a blockage in a specific chakra:
- Root Chakra: Greed for material goods, lack of ambition, a sense of disconnect, insomnia, and aches in the lower body.
- Sacral Chakra: Detachment from others, low libido, lack of creativity, and loneliness.
- Solar Plexus Chakra: Low self-esteem, fear of rejection, procrastination, and digestive issues.
- Heart Chakra: Distrust of others, lack of empathy, issues with boundaries, and a lack of love for yourself.
- Throat Chakra: Lack of self-expression, communication difficulties, feeling like you have no control, and a sore throat.
- Third Eye Chakra: Moodiness, lack of direction, disconnect from your intuition, and vision problems.
- Crown Chakra: Lack of purpose, confusion, instability, and a disconnection from your spiritual self.
Many people go through life with their Third Eye Chakra and Crown Chakra completely blocked. In order to move forward on your spiritual path and tune into the universe, you must focus on unblocking these two chakras. However, it is important to be balanced in the lower chakras before you open up your Third Eye Chakra and Crown Chakra.
Root Chakra (Muladhara)
- Location: The base of the spine
- Color Energy: Red
- Bija Mantra: Lam
- Crystals: Hematite, Smoky Quartz, Red Jasper, and Bloodstone
- Yoga Poses: Child’s Pose, Tree Pose, and Warrior 1 Pose
- Affirmation: Mother Nature provides me with safety and support.
- Journaling Prompt: When and where do I feel the safest?
The first chakra is the Root Chakra, which governs security and stability. It connects us with Mother Nature and allows us to feel grounded in the world we live in. Because it is the first chakra to develop, it is associated with our base needs, such as food, shelter, and comfort, and reminds us that it is crucial to have these basic needs met.
To unblock this chakra, hold associated crystals at the base of the spine while repeating affirmations of grounding and safety. You may also benefit from exploring your five senses, and going through them individually to connect your mind and body to the physical world.
Root Chakra Meditation
When the Root Chakra is blocked, you can use a visualization meditation to send positive energy through the chakra to open it up.
Here is a Root Chakra meditation for you to find inner peace and security:
- Go out in nature if you can, finding a quiet spot where you can feel the grass between your feet.
- Take your shoes off and stand upright in a mountain pose.
- Shut your eyes and take deep breaths, bringing your energy to your center.
- Then, visualize tree branches growing from your heart and down your legs. Imagine the branches entering the earth below you.
- Stay in this spot for a few moments, connecting your energy to the ground.

The Sacral Chakra is connected with creativity, passion, and sexuality. It unlocks inspiration and helps us find pleasure in ourselves and what surrounds us, boosting sensuality and interpersonal connections. When it is blocked, everything in the world seems a little bit grey, as the fire of the Sacral Chakra is unable to shine light on the wonders of the world.
When you have a healthy functioning Sacral Chakra, you will value yourself and understand your self-worth. You will feel comfortable in your sexuality and have the space to explore your passions.
To open up this Chakra, I recommend exploring your creative side. Write stories, paint pictures, and create! Even if you haven’t done so for years – you will really benefit from getting your creative energy out into the world.

This Sacral Chakra meditation harnesses the energy of the color orange. Through visualization techniques, you can focus your energy on the Sacral Chakra and ensure a healthy functioning second chakra!
Here is our Sacral Chakra meditation:
- Sit crossed-legged on the floor and close your eyes.
- Center yourself through breathing, taking your time to let go of worries that fill your mind.

The Solar Plexus Chakra, also known as the Manipura Chakra, is located in the stomach. It is the center of your strength and power, governing self-esteem and goals. It is pretty common for this chakra to get a bit mixed up! When the Solar Plexus Chakra is out of whack, we may feel a lack of confidence and motivation. You may also feel as if you have too much energy running through your body.
Thankfully, this blocked chakra can be fixed through meditation and affirmations.
Solar Plexus Chakra Meditation
This Solar Plexus Chakra meditation incorporates affirmations of strength and power to unblock this chakra.
- Light a candle, as the element of fire is connected to this chakra.

The Heart Chakra sits just above your physical heart and is often seen as a bridge between the lower and higher chakras. It governs love and compassion, and a functioning Heart Chakra allows us to build relationships on unconditional love and support.
When your Heart Chakra is blocked, you may feel distrustful of others and isolated from your loved ones.
Heart Chakra Meditation
Our Heart Chakra meditation focuses on the Yam Bija mantra and uses it to unblock this chakra.
- Sit comfortably either on the ground or in a chair.

The Throat Chakra governs communication and truth. It helps you express yourself and stay true to your beliefs. When this chakra is blocked, you often feel unheard by others and mix your words up. You may also feel disconnected from your truth and confused about your path in life.
Throat Chakra Meditation
To unblock your Throat Chakra, you can use essential oils and meditation music to allow your energy to flow through it. Our Throat Chakra meditation allows you to create a harmonious space to connect with your inner truth and really understand yourself.
- Put on meditation music and anoint your throat with lavender or peppermint essential oil.
- Close your eyes and allow your mind to wander. Allow your thoughts to flow through your mind.
- Examine each thought as it passes. Are worries cropping up?
- Now, take your time to label these thoughts. Identify what thoughts are your truth and what thoughts are not serving you.
Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

- Journaling Prompt: When have I let my intuition guide me in the past?
The Third Eye Chakra, also known as the Ajna Chakra, governs your intuition and awareness. It is associated with psychic abilities and helps us tap into our inner wisdom.
A blocked Third Eye Chakra creates a disconnect between yourself and your intuition. It also may manifest as a lack of direction and confusion about your soul’s mission.
Third Eye Chakra Meditation
This Third Eye Chakra meditation uses crystal healing and a Solfeggio frequency to open up this energy point.
- Play the 852 Hz Solfeggio frequency and lie on your floor.
- Place a Third Eye crystal, such as Labradorite or Amethyst, on your forehead.
- Inhale through your nose and out through your mouth, counting to seven for each inhale and exhale.
- Then, turn your attention to your Third Eye Chakra. Visualize a ball of energy coming from the crystal into this Chakra.

- Yoga Poses: Tree Pose, Lotus Pose, and Corpse Pose
- Affirmation: I am connected to higher realms of existence.
- Journaling Prompt: Do I feel connected to higher powers? If so, how?
The Crown Chakra is the connection between our physical body and higher powers and universal oneness. It is the center of consciousness and spirit, and through it, we can connect with divine energy and guidance.
A blocked Crown Chakra hinders spiritual growth and understanding. In order to feel at peace in your body and connect with higher realms of existence, this chakra needs to be open and healthy.
Crown Chakra Meditation
For this Crown Chakra meditation, you will be working with the image of a thousand-petaled lotus flower associated with this chakra.
- Sit crossed-legged on the floor with your back straight and hands placed on your knees, with your palms faced up.
- Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
- Then, picture a lotus flower sitting on the top of your head.
- Repeat the Bija mantra ‘ah’ as you visualize each petal of the lotus flower uncurling.
How Often Should You Clear Your Chakras?
How often you clear your chakras depends on where you are in life and what you need. We recommend focusing on a different chakra in each meditation session and taking your time to develop each one.
If you think you have a blocked chakra, focus on that particular one before clearing the rest.
Which Chakra Should Be Unblocked First?
The first chakra that you should unblock is the Root Chakra. Without an open Root Chakra, you are unable to have a strong and healthy chakra system.
Then, move through each chakra one by one, from the lower body chakras to the upper body chakras. As your chakras open, you will feel alignment within you.
