Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio during Halloween

Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio on October 31, The Times of India reports, placing the apparent reversal alongside Halloween. The newspaper connects the timing to astrological traditions about memory, unfinished conversations and the sign's association with death and endings.

The period began on October 24 and ends on November 13, 2026, according to Times Now. It is the third and final Mercury retrograde of the year, the outlet reports, and remains in Scorpio throughout.

Mercury's apparent reversal stays in Scorpio#

Retrograde motion means a planet appears to move backward when viewed from Earth, rather than actually reversing its course, Times Now explains. In astrology, the outlet says, the phase is associated with reviewing and revisiting matters. In Vedic astrology, it is known as Budh Vakri.

Mercury is associated in astrology with communication, reasoning, travel and planning, according to signo.net.br. The outlet says Scorpio adds associations with secrets and the search for what is hidden. It also describes unresolved conversations and past relationships as themes in interpretations of this retrograde.

Venus is also retrograde during this period, from October 3 to November 13, Times Now reports. Signo.net.br says Venus is associated in astrology with love and personal values, and that the overlap is interpreted as a time to reassess feelings and relationships.

Halloween links Mercury with remembrance#

The Times of India traces part of the connection to Greek myth. Hermes, whom the Romans called Mercury, was a messenger and a guide for souls traveling to the underworld. The newspaper says astrology retained the messenger role when it adopted Mercury's name for the planet.

Halloween is observed on October 31 and begins a Christian observance dedicated to remembering the dead, according to Wikipedia. Times Now also connects Halloween to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when the boundary between the living and the dead is traditionally believed to grow thin.

Times Now reports that the Moon is in Cancer on Halloween night. The outlet also gives dates for Mercury's shadow period, the interval it associates with the retrograde beyond its official start and end: it began on October 4 and lasts until around November 29-30.
