Mercury meets the sun in Scorpio on November 4 during its retrograde

Mercury meets the sun in Scorpio on November 4, 2026, during the planet's retrograde period, Hindustan Times reports. Astrologers call the close alignment a Mercury cazimi and associate it with clearer thinking and a fresh look at unresolved matters.

Mercury turned retrograde on October 24 and is due to resume direct motion on November 13, according to Hindustan Times. The November 4 meeting falls midway through that period. Retrograde motion describes a planet's apparent movement in the opposite direction when viewed from a particular vantage point.

The cazimi falls in Scorpio#

The word cazimi has Arabic origins and means "in the heart of the Sun," according to Hindustan Times. Traditional astrologers use it for a planet very near the sun and associate the position with a temporary strengthening of that planet's symbolic influence.

In astrology, Mercury is linked to thought, communication, information and travel, Hindustan Times reports. The paper says astrologers associate its cazimi with clearer expression and understanding. It identifies trust and emotional honesty as themes of the Scorpio alignment, alongside shared resources and deeper conversations.

An astrologer at Nebula told Hindustan Times that the alignment could offer a brief opportunity to understand ongoing situations more clearly. The paper also associates the continuing retrograde with a return to familiar issues, earlier discussions and unfinished projects.

The Times of India places the November 4 meeting at about 12 degrees Scorpio and describes it as the midpoint of the cycle. The newspaper says Mercury's retrograde stays within Scorpio, beginning at about 21 degrees and ending at about 5 degrees.

The Times of India identifies this as Mercury's third retrograde of 2026. The earlier periods ran from late February to March 20 and from June 29 to July 23. The Times of India gives Mercury's direct station as November 13 at 9:23 p.m. Indian time. It says the planet leaves its post-retrograde shadow on November 30, when it returns to 21 degrees Scorpio.
