The embargo vote drew less support#

The General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for an end to the embargo, with 130 countries in favor, 17 against and 25 abstaining, LawStreet Journal reports. The outlet dates the vote to October 28, while The Hindu dates it to October 30. Both report that support fell from previous years.

LawStreet Journal says the measure had often received more than 180 votes in earlier years. The Hindu reports that 165 countries supported it in 2025 and says the United States pressed countries to change their votes. Germany and Italy switched to abstaining for the first time in many years, according to the editorial.

The U.S. embargo has restricted trade with Cuban interests since 1960, according to Wikipedia. LawStreet Journal reports that India voted for the resolution and that its UN counsellor, Soumya Nair, cited shortages of essential medicines and disruptions to services in Cuba when explaining the vote.

Planetary positions framed the exchange#

Astrology News Service interpreted the confrontation using the United Nations' natal chart. It placed the transiting Sun at 4 Scorpio and Venus retrograde at 28 Libra in conjunction with the UN's natal Sun at 1 Scorpio. The outlet linked those positions to identity, authority and diplomacy.

The outlet also placed transiting Mars at 16 Leo in contact with the UN's natal Pluto at 11 Leo and in a square to its natal Mercury at 15 Scorpio. Astrology News Service associates Mars with confrontation, Pluto with power and Mercury with speech and argument.

Astrology News Service reads the Mars and Mercury square as a symbol of forceful language, and the Mars and Pluto contact as a symbol of a contest over power. It presents those associations as an interpretation of the exchange, alongside the tension between diplomatic relations and political positions.
