I got to confess something. I do not only love Tarot and the wonderful world of Psychic abilities, but I also love statistics and mathematics. Being the nerd that I am, I combined my two loves and started diving into the research and stats on the Psychic industry and tarot in specific.
Now, before we jump into the nitty-gritty of the statistics behind the psychic and Tarot industry, let’s first point out the most important fact of all research: Tarot has stood the test of time and is here to stay.
Tarot is truly loved by millions of people who use them daily and is not only popular in the United States but from Asia to Europa and the Middle East to South America, everywhere you go there is Tarot.
Here you can see the regions where tarot is searched for the most, as you notice, the Spanish-speaking countries are definitely more interested in Tarot than in countries speaking another language. From the top 15 countries where the term Tarot is most popular during the past 12 months, 10 of the countries have Spanish as their primary language.
It might not be for everyone though; some people love it, others think it’s a way to squeeze money out of people. Either way, people using it are overall are very happy with the outcomes, and having stood the test of time, Tarot must have value to people experiencing it.
With revenues of the Physic Industry expecting to grow to 2.4B over the next years, this is certainly a very exciting industry to be in. Improving economic conditions will continue to boost industry performance as well as rising disposable income increases the average spending on psychic services per customer.
Now, what are some of the statistics about Tarot and other mediumships? How much do Tarot readers actually earn? How is Tarot connected with religion? Are people interested in Tarot readings male or female and how old are they?
I have compiled survey results, researched many industry papers and graphics to answers these questions and provide a clear overview for you to use with Psychic, Medium and Tarot statistics & infographics.
Psychic and Tarot Statistics, Industry Numbers and Infographics
My extensive research has led me to divide the statics about the Psychic industry into multiple subsections, expanding upon here. The Psychic Services industry includes businesses and people that offer psychic and fortune-telling services, typically in the areas of astrology, aura reading, mediumship, tarot card reading, and palmistry, among other metaphysical services.
The Psychic Industry Statistics & Numbers
The United States Psychic industry, over the past five years, has grown by 2% year over year. The number of active Psychic and Tarot businesses has grown by 1.6% and their employees by 1.4%, according to an industry report of IBIS. The increase can be attributed to the recovering economic conditions and growing acceptance of industry services among millennial clients.
Tarot Service Usage and Statistics
Based on the latest research one in five (22%) US adults have ever consulted a psychic or medium.
What is interesting, is that among the psychics and tarot readers themselves, the number of female psychics who have consulted other psychics and mediums is 67% while the number of male psychics who have consulted other psychics is surprisingly below the general US population, with an approximately 13%.
Mediumship and Tarot Statistics on Gender and Age
Perhaps it is not surprising that the gender divide is more catered towards women. Overall, women are twice as likely to visit one compared to men, according to Pew Research Center.
Extrapolating the age-related data on tarot and psychics brings some results that might not be surprising. Those under the age of 23, appear to be more skeptical of these services than people above this age.
The average age of women who have consulted a psychic or medium is between 21 and 60 years old whereas the average age of men who have consulted a psychic is between 27 and 54 years old, a much narrower age gap than women.
Lastly, what is an interesting trend is that you can see the age of people using psychic-related services is going down over the past years, meaning younger people (under age of 25) are opening up to more spiritual practices and mediumship over the past 8 years.
Frequency of Tarot Reader or Medium Visits
Based on the research of Statista, we have created this graph on the frequency of visits to a tarot reader, astrology reading or medium.
This statistic illustrates the frequency with which premium rate services users used tarot or astrology services.
A total of 387,000 users of tarot or astrology have responded to this survey of which 25.5% said they used it daily, around 48.5% said to use the services weekly, almost 20% said they used the services on a monthly basis, and the remaining 6% said they used these services less than once per month.
Statistics on the presence of Spirits and Psychic Experiences
Looking at the graph above, 38% of US adults report feeling the presence of a spirit sometime during their lifetime, whereas 34% of US adults beliefs in the services of a medium or psychic.
Women are more likely than men to have sensed a ghostly or spiritual entity as 46% of women, in comparison to 30% of men, said they had such an experience. As with the belief in psychic, medium and tarot are lower, at 40% for women and 29% for men.
Spiritual Practices with the Biggest Market Share
Looking to start your own Tarot business? Look no further because here are the most profitable niches within the psychic and spiritual services industry that have the biggest market share.
The most popular being the general practices with almost 45% market share, including standard psychic reading and consultation pertaining to romance, personal relations, and business, including employment and investment. This includes tarot readings, astrology, and more general psychic services.
With 25% of the market share, mediumship is the second biggest niche including providers that communicate with the dead (deceased loved ones and members of the family being the most requested).
With 15%, the next two biggest services are healing sessions and pet psychics and animal communicators.
Psychic and Tarot Industry Earnings
Being a Psychic in the United States can be very profitable when done well. According to this article, the “Psychic of Wall Street” has earned more than $10.000.000 in the past 15 years (but did foresaw the global crisis).
However, this is more an anomaly than something standard. In research conducted in the US, the amount of psychics that earned more than $5M per year is only 6 and the amount psychics earning more than $1M per year is shy of 35.
The percentage of psychics in the United States who earn less than $50,000 a year is 79%, where the average income for male physics is slightly higher than their female counterparts.

Below we put the most interesting facts and statistics about tarot and psychics in an easy-to-read infographic.
Psychic Industry Questions Answered
Based on the always more-than-welcome messages with questions from our readers, I’ve decided to put the most frequent questions about the Tarot industry and Psychic statistics here.
How much is the psychic industry worth?
As you might have read in the statistics above, revenues in the psychic industry have grown 52% since 2005 to reach nearly $2.2 billion in 2018, the most recent year for which there is data available. The US industry has grown rebounded significantly since the beginning of this century and is expected to reach 2.3 to 2.4B by the end of 2024.
What Psychic services have the biggest market share?
The most popular service is the general practices with almost 45% market share, this includes the standard psychic reading and consultation on love, relations, and business. With 25% of the market share, mediumship is the second biggest niche including providers that communicate with the dead. Lastly, with 15%, healing services and pet psychics & animal communicators have the 3rd and 4th biggest market share within the psychic industry.
How many people use psychic services?
Based on the latest research 22% of US adults admitted to having ever consulted a psychic or medium. Of this group of people, around 2/3 is female and 1/3 is male and the average age among both men and women using psychic services is between 25 and 60 years old.
Getting ready for a reading
Whether it’s palm readers or astrologers, experts in tarot, or mediums who connect with the dead โ the psychic industry is booming and this wave keeps on growing. The estimated number of psychics, mediums, and healers in the United States and Europe is over 50.000.
The only (good) thing slowing this growth down is that nowadays many cities in the US require psychics to buy licenses to practice their services and the increased industry regulation could result in slightly heightened barriers to entry for psychics.
Hopefully, these insights into the tarot and psychic industry have been helpful to heighten your connection with this industry. Please feel free to use this tarot infographic (with the appropriate credits to my designs) and data for your own research so that we can hopefully welcome you too to our growing community soon.
I, to say the least, am super happy that I’m part of this growing industry that keeps on sparking joy everywhere in the world, and researching these statistics just made me extra excited for what is to come.

Hi Capitola, Thanks for your message! There are numerous ways to start your business. Etsy and Facebook are platforms where you can offer paid readings. Have you tried those already? You can also start your own site, but that will take you a little bit more time probably. But with software like WordPress, Squarespace, and Wix it’s pretty straightforward. Good luck ???? Wille
